Energy Performance Certificates (EPC’s).
EPC’s are now mandatory in the UK whenever you advertise a lease or sell most commercial properties. Failure to provide an Energy Performance Certificate is an offence and could jeopardize the transaction. Trading Standards Officers are able to levy heavy fines of 12.5% of a property’s rateable value for non compliance. The EPC also provides an opportunity for business to asses how efficiently they are using energy which is likely to be an increasingly expensive overhead. It is also an opportunity to consider if the energy use can be used to reduce carbon dioxide emissions which research seems to suggest are currently having an adverse affect on the future of the planet.
